Urban Interactive Studio is now Konveio

After more than 10 years, Urban Interactive Studio closed its doors on Dec. 31, 2019 - only to immediately open them back up as Konveio LLC on Jan. 1, 2020.

For the last 2 years we’ve been hard at work building a content engagement platform for document and project collaboration. We long saw a need for a platform that turned reports, plans and PDF’s into interactive, collaborative documents. Konveio was created because there were no companies providing such a platform that our clients and partners desperately needed.

When Chris Haller started UIS over 10 years ago, the goal was to create a better way to engage citizens online in the decisions that affect them in their communities. At the time, few tools for digital participation existed and we quickly found a niche building websites and apps that support urban planning projects while partnering with many of the best planning firms and innovative cities along the way.

As more digital engagement tools entered the market, UIS focused on building and tailoring custom solutions to the needs of projects where off-the-shelf tools just weren’t cutting it. Our EngagingPlans and EngagingApps products, with their tailored implementations, supported planning projects from Minneapolis, to Maui, to Toronto.

Through the more than 500 communities and projects we have helped, we discovered that while all the digital engagement tools on the market are great at supporting the early stages of projects; where they offered no solution was communicating and engaging citizens around complex information, alternatives or drafts. Ever the problem solver, CiviComment was born as a simple draft annotation tool. Over the course of 2018 we completely rebuilt the software to transform it into a simple yet powerful platform to publish interactive documents.

At the end of 2018, we relaunched the new product as Konveio. After just one year in the market, the overwhelming feedback has proven that Konveio is the product to address the pain points we set out to solve. With the enthusiastic response of our early clients, their referrals and testimonials, we’re excited to make the official announcement: we will be shelving our legacy products to fully focus on Konveio and helping organizations create change.  

We wholeheartedly believe Konveio is a tool that drives positive change and we will continue to evolve to better serve the needs of communities and clients around the world. So really, this is not the end of Urban Interactive Studio, but rather its rebirth.
